Well done to Conor, Rossa and Cathal who have achieved their
4th MPC badge today

This weekend 14th Ballyroan Scouts are took part in its 4th
National MPC (Mountain Pursuit Challenge). That’s 4 in one year
Connaught, Ulster, Munster and now Leinster. This is a great achievement
for all the Scouts who have shown dedication, drive and commitment in
supporting each other on this journey. It took them a lot of hard effort
of not just hauling up mountains, but navigating through them, with
additional endless hours of preparation and training.

Very few scouts ever achieve 4 MPCs forget about in a year.

A big thank you to all who supported them: going on training hikes,
freely giving lifts, understanding when schedules were missed – I
remember one training hike to “Billy Byrnes Gap” where Scouts were
returned home well after midnight! A big thank you to David Bruce, our
Cub section Leader, who generously assisted with so many training hikes
earlier this year. Fran Brady, Yvonne Lynch, Aidan Harmon & Martina
Morton helped out with so many hikes I could not possibly list them.
Aidan McArdle, from Greenhills Scouts, supported them and guided us on
the right path regarding light weight camping.
Everything went going well and on Sunday morning, your Scouts, OUR Scouts,
were be asked to step forward to receive their 4th MPC badges before any
of the others are awarded – this is a big deal. They will perhaps play
this down when you meet them. It is a big deal – only 1 Scout group out
of the 20 participating on each MPC reach this level of achievement and
very few manage to do it in one year. I personally am very impressed.
This level of achievement reflects well on all the Scouts in the unit.
